Contact Types are Lists of Contacts created by the firm rather than by users for the purpose of easily finding Contacts by their role. Personal Contacts that are not shared with the firm cannot be added as a Contact Type. Contact types and their membership are configured by the firm, and they only for Firm Contacts.
Contact Types share many features with other Lists. From the Contacts Type tab, you can:
- Mark a Contact Type as a favorite, filter and sort Lists, and change the List column display.
- Complete bulk Actions on a List.
There are 6 recommended Contact Types that can help you reach your business development goals.

Add Contacts to Contact Types in Bulk
Instead of adding one contact at a time, you can select several contacts and assign multiple contact types simultaneously using the Actions drop-down menu.
Key Points:
- Works only for Firm and Shared contacts.
- Both Person and Company contacts can be updated.
- If you're accessing My Contacts, the Add to Contact Type option will be disabled.
How To:
- Navigate to the Contact Details page for the Contact for whom you want to add or remove from a list by doing one of the following:
- Search for the Contact and select the Contact name. Refer to Searching in InterAction+™ CIM.
- Click on the Contacts tab and select the Contact Name. The Contact Details Page will display.
- Click on the Contact Types tab and select the Contact name from Favorites or select All, drill down to the Contact name, and then click on the Contact name. The Contact Details Page will display.
- Click on the Lists tab and select the Contact name from Favorites or select the appropriate List and drill down to the Contact name and then mark the check box in front of the Contact name.
- Click the Actions Drop-Down and select Add to Contact Type to open a grid of available contact types.

Check the boxes next to one or more contact types you wish to assign. You can search and filter by Name and Group.
- Review and confirm your selection. The chosen contact types will be assigned to all selected Firm or Shared contacts.
