System Administrators can create Custom Fields for Opportunities. Active Custom Fields are shown in the Custom Fields Widget or Tile for Opportunities. The default value for a new Custom Field is Active. If you inactivate a Custom Field, values are preserved, but the values are not displayed. All active fields are displayed.
Important:
- You are limited to creating twenty active Custom Fields.
- If you inactivate a Custom Field, the field is not counted against the limit of twenty Custom Fields in the system.
- To delete a Custom Field, it must be inactive and not contain data.
- You can edit a Custom Field, but you cannot change the Field Type. You can, however, change the field name and the Required status.
- Making a custom field Required means that every Opportunity in the system must have a value in the field. This includes all closed and open Opportunities. A user updating an Opportunity without a value for the required Custom Field will be prompted to enter a value for a required Custom Field before saving.
